Weekly Wrap-up~Week 4

weeklywrap-up2

Yeah, I skipped a week.  Not because we didn’t do anything…well, sort of.  I did normal school with the little people that week but I was mainly being nurse to my big boys.  They were so sick, they still aren’t 100% but they are starting to get their appetites back which makes this Momma abundantly happy and thankful!

This past week was much more interesting.  We started out Monday at the State Fair.  You can read about that adventure here.  The rest of the week has been all about college!  Banana and Chocolate started their college classes on Tuesday.

There schedule goes something like this:

Tuesday-

Leave the house at 6:45 with their dad.  Drop dad off at the Park and Ride at 7:30.  Drive to the church where the classes are held.  First class starts at 8:30.

Classes are done by noon on Tuesday but they are stuck there until Dad gets done at work, so they pick him up at the Park and Ride about 5:30.  There is a nice place for them to hang out at the church called the Upper Classmen Study Center (UCSC), there’s wifi in there and big couches and a microwave and other students.  They also have permission to drive to a coffee shop nearby to hang out.  They get home sometime after 6, it’s a loooong day!

Here they are after their first big day.  I made  them a nice dinner of venison stew and garlic cheese biscuits and pumpkin cupcakes.

Wednesday-

They leave the house bright and early again.  Same schedule basically as Tuesday but this time while at the church it’s a little different.

Banana Taffy-Intro to Business first thing, then a break to hang out and study in the UCSC.

Chocolate Taffy-Has a break first thing and then a speech class, followed by lunch.

Then they both have a 3 hour English class to finish out the day.  Phew!

I am happy to report that they really like their professors and while they are feeling overwhelmed by the work load, the teachers are being VERY helpful, answering emails quickly and grading and returning papers early so they can fix them.  I’m so proud of my boys!

It’s strange not having them home during the day on those two days.  It’s kind of nice too though and LOVE hearing about the fun things that happened while they were away.

Oh, the other thing that happened this week was that my washing machine broke.  Not funny when you have 9 people living in a house and one in cloth diapers.  After the initial pity-party I decided to view the down time as a laundry vacation and once Mr. Taffy fixed the washing machine (saving us hundreds of dollars that can be used towards our trip to Israel instead) we got all caught up on Friday night and Saturday!  Yay Mr. Taffy!   So thankful to be able to do laundry again!

Hope you had a great week too!

Joyfully,

Mrs. Taffy

  1. Wow! They do have a LONG day! Are they taking a full load of classes? I've been doing a lot of research about duel enrollment for high school and college credits. It seems so confusing! I'm glad I have a few years! LOL

  2. I didn't link up this week b/c our week was hectic due to a tremendous amount of rain we got here in PA. It sounds like you all are having a great year and those older children of your's are so mature for handling their long days so well and responsibly.
Oh! And those pumpkin cupcakes look amazing!

  3. So exciting for the big kids to have this new adventure. Not so exciting for the washer to break down. haha

  4. I'm glad you got the washer fixed without mega $! It's so difficult to have the washer go out with a large family!

Congrats to your new college students.
