About the Movie:
Matthew Stevenson is a troubled kid from a broken home. When he vandalizes the local church to get back at his parents, Matthew has to repair the damage to the church to avoid criminal charges. While working at the church, he meets Ernest (John Ratzenberger), an accomplished wood carver who created the intricate woodwork decoration that Matthew destroyed. Ernest has become something of a hermit, but reluctantly comes out of reclusion to help repair the church. Now Ernest and Matthew must work together to preserve the church's beautiful antiquity, and along the way, they also manage to restore their faith in God and in life. (From the Publisher)
This movie is rated PG and lasts about an hour and half. We had all ages watching it, from 4 up to 39, with several teenagers. This isn’t a funny, light-hearted movie, rather it’s a movie that deals with the serious issues of divorce, grief and rebellion, forgiveness and reconciliation. Of course there are funny parts in the movie, but as a whole, the movie has an undertone of sadness. That didn’t keep us from enjoying it, but the topic of divorce and the fighting and arguing that often occur before a divorce can be intense for young children, so keep that in mind. I do want to share that this movie does have a happy ending, so that makes some of the conflict and stress evaporate pretty quickly. I don’t regret letting my little ones watch it, they enjoyed it enough but a lot of it was over their head and they just didn’t understand what they were watching. Visit this link to see the trailer.
