Thrifty Finds

Even though garage sale season is in hibernation, I still frequent my favorite thrift shops.  And since going the way of a budget it’s been even more fun finding good deals.

I can’t take the credit for this find, Strawberry found it, but I did pay for it.  It’s a Longaberger Christmas Mug, nice quality like my Polish Pottery.  .99  LOVE IT!

I found this cast iron plate holder at Goodwill for $1.99, I was hoping I could use it to hold my cast iron pan.  It worked perfectly!  I have more pans to hang so I’m going to keep my eyes open for more of these plate holders.

This just made me smile.  $1.99  It’s a nice conversation starter as well.

Another rooster for my collection.  This one is made of wood, I like the height it adds to my display.  Here’s a shot of the whole scene.

I’ve also been gathering up a nice supply of jeans for my 5 year old.  He’s been blowing through the ones I found at garage sales over the summer.  I’ve been able to get his jeans between $1.50 and $3.00 each.  That makes me happy and fits nicely into our budget.

Have you been thriting lately?  Find any treasures?

Garage Sale Treasures Week 14

Our Thursday Garage Sale day started out kind of slow.  The first few sales were really bad.  But things started picking up and I actually found a lot of great stuff this week!

I apologize for the awkwardness of this photo, it does show two of my great finds though.  The individual trampoline-$5.00 and the Ikea Easel with Paper roll-$5.00.  Both were excellent condition and something that I have been looking for.  Laffy actually has sore muscles from jumping so much!  The easel is primarily for Bubble Gum Taffy but the others are enjoying it as well.

Another awesome find is this little bike for Laffy Taffy.  We’ve been looking for a two-wheeler for him and this was in such great condition and was only $10.00!  He loves it!

Black Trench Coat for me-$3.00.  White blouse (really long)-.50 and red cape jacket-.50.

Also for me, three pair of long jeans-.50, 1.00 & 1.00.  1 pair of Tommy Hilfiger cropped jeans-$2.00  Black Dress pants-$1.00, black stretch pants-.50, black tank top-.25 and light blue shirt-.25.

Light up pumpkin-$1.00.  My boys helped me to put it in its new home:

Can you believe there’s actually a plug up there?  And LOTS of dust!

Kid’s books were a quarter each and the movies were .25.  I had to buy Lady and the Tramp because Mr. Taffy did not believe m that there are Siamese cats in the movie.  I’m happy to say I proved him wrong.  ha ha!  The Little House Movies are still shrink wrapped!  The chicken was $1.00.

These two books were .25 each.

A new quilt for Bubble Gum.  $3.00!!  It’s so perfect in her room, I was so happy to find it for such a good price.  I got the quilt from the same sale as the easel and the clothes for me, she had GREAT prices and I basically spent the rest of my money there which was about $14.00 I think.  Less than a new pair of jeans from Wal-Mart!  So thankful!

P.S.  Sorry this is a little late!  Mr. Taffy stayed home yesterday and we’ve been having fun making some important decisions for our family.

Garage Sale Treasures Week 13

Did you miss me last week?  I looked, but there was nothing!  It was a holiday after all, I guess I’ll get over it.  lol

This week was great fun though!  I found many treasures! I hope you did too!

At the very first sale we found this beautiful queen size quilt for Strawberry Taffy’s bed.  She’s been using my quilt, which has moved into the “vintage” age and is very fragile.  This one has a lot of life left in it.  I washed it and hung it on the line to dry!  $5.00 (It’s not handmade.)

Purse-$1.00, stacking drawers-$1.00 each, Baby Bjorn potty chair-$3.00  (Marshmallow LOVES it and sits on it every time she’s in the bathroom.)  Doll Hospital Book-.50 and sunglasses for me-$2.00.  ( I think that’s a little high for a garage sale but I was ready to shell over $10.00 to buy them new, so I figured it was okay.)

Funny Rubber elephant, I don’t know who made it, I found one on ebay selling for $39.99.  I paid $1.50, the kids like to sit on it.  Child size push broom-.50.

Two tank tops for me-$1.00 each and tied die shirt-$1.00.  That cool math t.shirt is for Chocolate Taffy, it was $1.00 and he LOVES it.  He’s so excited to wear it to his college math class!

Pink and brown striped hoodie dress for Strawberry-$1.00.  Green and brown hoodie for Blue-Raspberry-.50.

Clothes for Bubble Gum.  Brown cords-$2.00, brown sweater-$2.00, blue shirt-$1.00, Christmas hoodie and t.shirt-.50 each.

Some play clothes for Marshmallow.  Everything was a quarter each and they all are Carters.  The three shirts on the side are onesie t.shirts, those will be so nice in the fall!

This is what Bubble Gum found.  This wood horse stable for $5.00.  She negotiated the price from $6.00 and paid with her own money that she’s been earning from rubbing my feet!  (smile)

And finally, I was pretty happy about this find.  I found these at Goodwill.  I have this set of plates that I love and was so happy to find two more plates for .99 each and the creamer was $1.99.

Garage Sale Treasures~Week 12

Summer has hit with all of it’s warmth and pollen.  Summer isn’t really my favorite season, I know to most people summer is THE best, but I prefer the cooler temperatures of fall, the mosquito-less days and humid-less nights.   So it was HOT on the day we went garage saling and I didn’t have too much time to be out because I had lots of responsibilities to attend to in the kitchen/cooking department.  I’m happy with my finds though!

Both of the those Leap Frog Magnet sets were a dollar.  I already have them but since they were so cheap I bought them for my nephew.  My mom will probably keep that her house, she baby-sits him often.  The Lake Shore Learning Counting Cakes was $4.00.  There were so many awesome sets like this one that garage sale, I just didn’t want to pay that much!  They had a Lake Shore Learning Kitchen set, AMAZING, it was like $80 though.  Somebody will be happy.  The CARS sheet set was $2.00.  And the book $1.00.  All these things came from different sales.

2 Toy Story shirts-.25 (For Laffy Taffy for pajamas.)  The little sweat pants are for my nephew .25 and the Keens are for Marshmallow for next year~$1.00.

Some more tops for me.  Remember I’m rebuilding my wardrobe after dropping 45+ pounds!  From left to right:  .75, $1.00 & .25. (All size large)

Also for me from left to right:  Denim shorts~.50, denim capri overalls (LOVE)~$2.00, Plaid capris~.50, khaki shorts~.50. (size large or 12)

Two fall shirts for Chocolate Taffy.  $1.00 each.

I almost forgot to mention…I actually went thrift store shopping on Monday too.  Banana Taffy needed some stuff, we didn’t find anything for him, but I found some things for other people.  It was half-price day at both places I went, so if you see a tag, it was 1/2 of that.

Two pair of Khaki pants for Chocolate Taffy.  He got a job working at Target (discounts for Momma!), so he needed some pants.  $2.50 each and they are both GAP.

Shoes for me.  Suede leather boots~$1.49, flip flops with charms~$2.50.  CUTE!

For me, left to right or front to back depending on your perspective:  Fancy shirt (new) $7.50, black Talbots shirt~$2.00, white shirt~$2.00, lavender t.shirt~$2.00, Floral Laura Ashley Top~$2.50 (LOVE), pink Land’s End shirt~$1.50 and Brand New white Skirt $7.50.

For Bubble Gum:  Land’s End pajamas~$1.50, under shirt~.50, white tights~.50.

For Laffy Taffy:  His friend gave him a suit, which he has been begging me to wear but he didn’t have all the pieces, well now he does!  Shoes~$2.00, socks~.50, shirt~$2.00.

And finally…for Banana Taffy, but he actually bought it with his own money, a 1989 Thunderbird for $1500.  Having a child with his own vehicle is a blessing and a little bit scary!

Garage Sale Treasures Week 11

Seriously?  11 weeks already?  I keep telling my kids that the summer is going to be over before they know it, I think this PROVES it!  Wow!

Anyway… many, many garage sales in my town this week!  It was loads of fun!  Banana Taffy drove me around, I brought Strawberry, Bubble Gum, Laffy Taffy and Marshmallow along, the other two stayed home and did yard work and Math.  To each his own.  lol

One of my biggest fun finds!  These cups were .40 each.  Such strange pricing at this garage sale, but the cups are so fun and I’m drinking coffee out of one of them while I’m typing this post!!

Lots of little goodies:  Melissa and Doug Ring Toss game-$3.00, Haba Lacing Toy-$1.00 (saving for a gift), Sofie-.50 (Marshmallow already has one but the squeeker stopped working, sad day as my house when Sofie isn’t her normal happy self!)  Toy Story Reader-.50 and the Barney movies were a quarter each.  Seriously, we have an issue with buying the old Barney Movies.  Don’t tell anyone!

Clothes for Marshmallow:  Pajamas-.50, Hanna Dress-2.00, Old Navy Dress-1.00, denim dress-1.00. I see a theme.

New flip flops for Bubble Gum-.50.

Clothes for Blue-Raspberry.  Two swim shirts-.75 each, short-.25, pajama pants-.50, athletic pants-.50 and dressy black pants-.75.

I actually found two of those doll stands, they were .10 each.  A new purse-1.00, that giant clippy thing $1.50 (I’m saving it for Mr. Taffy’s stocking), ribbons-.25 each, cupcake color game-$1.00 and a big bag of teacher stamps for 1.00.

Plant stand.  $1.00.

And finally a little baby buggy for .50!  It was filthy which is I think is why it was so cheap, it cleaned up beautifully!  Marshmallow LOVES it.  A couple things that didn’t get pictured…a Home Depot Weed Whacker-TOY.  It’s so cute and Laffy Taffy ran off with it to do some yard work so I didn’t get a picture of it, it’s was .50.  And the big prize of the day, but one that I didn’t purchase, was an Emily American Girl Doll (Molly’s best friend) for $20.00.  Bubble Gum spent all her money on that.  She’s been saving her money since Christmas and her birthday, her saving paid off!  She’s a pretty happy girl!
